Summary
Markaz Ilm does not require an account and does not collect personal information. Prayer times, the Qibla direction, the Hijri calendar, duas and the Zakat calculator all run on your device.
Location
When you open the app, it asks for your location so it can show prayer times, the Qibla direction and nearby masjids for where you are. You can say no and choose a city instead. Your location (rounded to about 100 metres) is saved only on your device so the times are ready next time; it is never sent to Markaz Ilm.
To show the name of your area (for example “Jamia Nagar, New Delhi”), the rounded coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service.
When you search for masjids, the area name or coordinates you choose are sent to Google Maps Platform (Google Places) and to OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim and Overpass) to find nearby masjids, and the map is loaded from Google Maps. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy. Their privacy policy applies: osmfoundation.org. Directions open Google Maps.
Notifications
Adhan reminders use your browser's notification permission, which you can turn off at any time in your browser or device settings. Reminders are created on your device; we do not send push messages.
Information stored on your device
To remember your choices, the app saves a few settings in your browser's local storage: selected city or your saved location, calculation method, Asr setting, reminder choices, moon-sighting adjustment, dua text size and whether you dismissed the install message. It also stores app files for offline use. You can clear these by clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app.
Zakat calculator
Amounts you enter into the Zakat calculator are never saved or sent anywhere.
Third-party services
- Google Fonts (fonts for the app)
- OpenStreetMap (maps and masjid data)
- Google Maps Platform (masjid search, maps and directions)
Children
The app does not knowingly collect any information from children.
